This is required training for all the members of the PLC (Patrol Leaders Council), including the people newly elected on September 2.

Who's on the PLC? The Patrol Leaders, the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL), the Assistant Senior PLs, the Troop Scribe, the Troop Quartermaster, and the Troop Webmaster.

PLC members will learn what's expected of them and some tools to help them be good leaders, and we'll have some fun while we're doing it. Did I say "food will be provided?"

There isn't a make-up of this session, and agreeing to attend this session is a pre-requisite for running for a PLC position.

To kick off the new program year, each scout should have at least one parent attend this very important and informative meeting!  Thank you for your support.

This is another fun service project.

We support our sponsor, the IWLA, by setting up an easy geocaching course and taking people out to show them what geocaching is all about.

Other Scouts stay back to show kids how to make ice cream in baggies, which is always a huge hit. We can set up a coverage rotation so everyone gets a chance to take some time to explore and enjoy all the other activities at the open house -- free food, fishing, shotgun shooting, free food, black powder demonstration, booths, and food.

Finishing up our three-in-a-row service projects is our Going Nuts project.

Each year, the Maryland Dept. of Natural Resources collects nuts of native trees to plant so that the seedlings that sprout from them can be used in reforestation projects in the state.

We collect nuts throughout September, and then on October 2nd, we'll meet at the IWLA to collect nuts there. It's a beautiful time of year to spend a couple of hours outside, it's fun to use the nut-collectors, and it feels great to be helping to make our state a more beautiful place.

Mr. Lawrence will be holding a Carpentry workshop at his home on Oct. 9 for Requirement 5 – “Make a simple article of furniture for practical use …”.
Scouts working on the Carpentry MB are encouraged to complete this project on their own with responsible supervision and bring the finished project to the workshop.  Those Scouts who need assistance can come to the workshop to assemble the project there. Scouts can make any project of their own choosing, but a plan for a simple but handy footstool can be found under documents on the Merit Badge page of the Troop Website.

Please RSVP on the Troop website if you plan to come.  Bring your Carpentry blue card (see Mr. Schimke if you still need to get one), a hammer and a saw, if you have one.  MANDATORY – Bring your safety glasses!  If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Lawrence at 301.963.9314 or BILLYL@erols.com.  More details to follow.
** Parents and other Carpentry MBCs are encouraged to come to supervise and assist.

Come join in Geocaching’s 10th Anniversary by attempting to find 10 geocaches in 1 day on Oct. 10, 2010 (10-10-10!)  Mrs. Lawrence will host a hike along a portion of the Hoyle Mill Conservation Park trail in Boyds, MD where many geocaches have been hidden.  Scouts can use this hike for the Geocaching MB and friends and family are welcome to come along.  We will meet at the parking area near the intersection of White Ground and Hoyle Mill Roads, and hike about 3/4 mile down and back.
Check out http://www.geocaching.com to learn about this fun sport, and contact Mrs. Lawrence if you would like to earn the Geocaching MB.
** Please RSVP for this activity on the Troop website. **
